As we begin a new year get in the habit of creating a little self-care awareness.  Schedule it like a meeting on your calendar, turn off your phone, and stick to it so you are at your best for the important people in your life. Plus, if you have children, they are observant and will learn from your actions.  What is self-care awareness?  Anything that helps you take care of your body, mind, and spirit.

Tips for Self-Care pulled form Psychology Today

  • Get enough sleep – Sleep affects both your physical and emotional well-being.
  • Exercise – You don’t have to run 10 miles each day.  Walk, ride a bike or play toss in the front yard with the kids.  Any movement will reduce anxiety, and boost your mood.
  • Get outside – Nature heals and is our best source for Vitamin D.
  • Organize your space  -Cluttered physical space = cluttered mental space.  Take the time to organize and feel your mental clutter break free.
  • Eat right – Think about what’s fueling your body, what we eat determines how we feel.  Cook at home whenever possible.  You’ll save money and know exactly what you are consuming.
  • Take time for yourself – We all need time to decompress and collect our thoughts.  Read a book, go to lunch with a friend, go away for a weekend by yourself.  These are not selfish acts and will actually make your more patient and grounded with those you love.
